A time converter moves a duration between seconds, minutes, hours, days, weeks, months and years. It converts your value into a base unit — seconds — and back out. The short units are exact and unchanging (an hour is always 3600 seconds), but months and years are averages because real calendars vary: this tool uses the 365.25-day year and a month of one-twelfth of it. For the exact gap between two specific dates, use the Date Difference Calculator instead.

How the conversion works
Each unit equals a fixed number of seconds. Multiply your value by the "from" unit's seconds-per-unit to reach seconds, then divide by the "to" unit's. Seconds, minutes, hours, days and weeks are exact. Months and years can't be exact — a year is 365 or 366 days — so the standard convention of a 365.25-day year (and a month a twelfth of that) is used for unit conversion.
Worked example — 1 day in other units
Scenario: convert 1 day to other time units.
One day is 24 hours, 1440 minutes, or 86,400 seconds — all exact. The same rule handles the rest: 1 week is 168 hours, 2.5 hours is 150 minutes (9000 seconds), and 1 year is 365.25 days or about 8766 hours. Just remember the month and year figures are averages, so a "3-month" duration here is 91.3 days rather than an exact calendar span.
